APPLICATION OF GROUNDWATER VULNERABILITY METHODS SITE AND SIVI AT THE EASTERN DELTA OF RIVER NESTOS

ABSTRACT
The paper presents the research of the vulnerability seawater intrusion of an aquifer system in the eastern part of the Nestos River Delta applying SITE and SIVI methods, in the framework of the groundwater management in the region. The relevant research work included the collection and analysis of data and information regarding the geological and geomorphological environment, as well as the hydrogeological system of the area. The calculation of the values of the SIVI and SITE indices is described and the results from the application of the SIVI and SITE methods as well as the design of relative groundwater vulnerability maps are presented. The work concludes with findings and proposals useful for the reliable assessment of the hydrogeological status of the wider study area.
